"I find it hard to believe a whole lot of rock artists were touched by Bobby Darin,Abba or Mahalia Jacksons gospel drivel"

Don't be prejudiced dude. Mahalia Jackson had one of the great voices of the 20th century. R&R had lots of roots and some of the greatest singers came from gospel - Sam Cooke/Aretha/Ray Charles etc.

I understand and I must admit I struggle a bit reigning in the disdain I have for all things religious.I know she has a great voice, but I doubt if she was a direct influence on many "rock" artists, more likely they were influenced by r&b/soul artists who were influenced by her, which was part of my point, why not then have Beethoven,Bach,Stephen Foster,or anyone who wrote music that might have influenced rock musicians in the "rock&roll hall of fame".All that said and done DH you were correct in calling me out for not respecting Mahalia's talent.
